About Kenneth LaPensee

As principal and owner of Skylands Healthcare Consulting, Dr. Kenneth LaPensee draws on extensive knowledge of pharmacoeconomics and health insurance reimbursement policies. He entered the field of health care having served as director of group health strategy and analysis for State Mutual Life, and later as director of health services research and group actuarial research for Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield. After a subsequent tenure as director of the health strategies group at Alexander & Alexander Consulting, Dr. Kenneth LaPensee transitioned into the field of clinical investigations.

As vice president for health economics research with Physicians World Communication, Dr. Kenneth LaPensee developed cost-effectiveness models for prostate cancer scanning technologies and topical psoriasis treatments. He left the company in 1998 when he became senior vice president for Cambridge Pharma Consultancy and IMS Health. There, he worked with a variety of companies in drug and device pricing and reimbursement strategy.

Dr. Kenneth LaPensee has also served as an outcomes research independent contractor at Berlex Laboratories and as director for payer and reimbursement strategies in the outcomes research unit for Ingenix/i3Innovus. He more recently led as director of health economics at Forest Laboratories. In this position he conducted a number of multifaceted studies on health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) for products targeted at depression, stroke, autism, and other conditions. Before accepting his current position at Paratek Pharmaceuticals, Dr. LaPensee served as senior director of economics, reimbursement and access at The Medicines Company, where he attended to outcomes data as well as pricing assessments on a global scale.
